Second International Workshop – Conference – Enlarged Meeting of the Russian Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress

We have the honor of notifying you about the holding of a representative international forum “Coal in the Global Economy”, which will run from 4-7 May 2011 in the city of Kemerovo.

The organizers: Russian Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress, the Administration of Kemerovo Oblast, the Ministry of Energy of Russia with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

At the forum “Coal in the Global Economy”, the following key issues will be discussed:

  • • The role and place of coal in the fuel balance of countries;
  • • The development of coal-powered generation, including on the basis of environmentally sound technologies;
  • • The deep processing of coal and the receipt of high value added products;

We have invited senior management of major international organizations and leading Russian coal miners, independent international experts and business representatives ready to invest in the coal industry and power sector to the forum.

The forum is being held in the format of an enlarged meeting of the Russian Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress and will be attended by invited members of the World Mining Congress.

During the discussion we plan to develop an objective assessment of the role played by coal in the global economy at present and draft corresponding recommendations on how to coordinate our actions to increase efficient use of coal and reduce the impact of potential risks on the development of the coal industry and international trade in coal.

Meeting participants will have an opportunity to see at first hand the work of Kuzbass-based coal mining enterprises, which play a key role in Russia’s coal industry and are leveraging state-of-the-art domestic and foreign experience of coal extraction and processing in practice.

We believe that it would be advisable to send the independent expert assessments and recommendations developed at the forum to the state authorities of member states of the World Mining Congress.
